Plot
In 1766, Kang Su-hang, a painter and senior member of Dohwaseo, the Academy of Painting, was found killed after being secretly commissioned by the son of the crown prince who would later become King Jungjo (1752-1800, the 22nd King of the Joseon Dynasty). The commission was to paint a portrait of the crown prince. Seo Jing, another member of Dohwaseo, was found dead while investigating the death of Kang Su-hang. In addition, Seo Jing’s wife was murdered and his daughter went missing.

Ten years later, Kim Hong-do, a senior member of Dohwaseo, discovers Shin Yun-bok, a new student. Hong-do discovers great talent in Yun-bok and tries to protect the student from conspiracies that surround him. King Jungjo also discovers Yun-bok’s enormous talent. Kim Hong-do and Shin Yun-bok serve as the eyes of the king, depicting the true reality of the common people. However, powerful palace officials conspire to get rid of the two painters, and soon afterwards, they are kicked out of Dohwaseo. Then, the king secretly orders the pair to find the portrait of his father painted by Kang Su-hang ten years prior. Kim Hong-do and Shin Yun-bok are successful in recovering the portrait, overcoming hurdles and dangerous traps set up by enemies. The recovery of the painting also helps reveal the secret behind the death of Seo Jing, who is actually Shin Yun-bok’s father.

In the process, Kim Hong-do realizes that he is truly in love with Shin Yun-bok. However, he tries to leave him because he knows that the affair would be an impossible one. But to everyone's surprise, the truth is revealed. Shin Yun-bok is actually a woman. She had disguised herself as a man to enter Dohwaseo, an institution limited only to males, in order to uncover the truth about her father’s death.

1. "The Painter of Wind" is based on the fictional historical novel "The Painter of the Wind" by Jung-myeong Kee.
2. The novel examines the life of 18th century painter Yun-bok Shin. Although highly regarded for his erotic & satrical paintings, there are few documents relating to the painter's life in the present day. Jung-myeong Kee's novel then presents the hypothetical question, "What if Yun-bok Shin was actually a girl dressed in men's clothes?"
3. Actress Moon Geun-Young fractured her nose on Oct 9, 2008 while filming a scene for "The Painter of Wind". Co-star Park Shin-Yang accidentally hit Geun-yeong with his elbow while shooting an argument scene. Filming for the show halted for one week while Geun-yeong recovered.

Ini drama terkini yang aku baru aje habis tengok. Citer pesen bersandarkan sejarah ni apa sangat kita nak harapkan. Cause most of the time, they won't go as we wished. However, it's not that bad.

I must say that this story is a combination of Goong, Hwang Jin Yi, God Of Study and don't be surprised if I say there's a scene similar to New Moon:Eclipse! ;p Dalam episod 2-3, part Dan Won mencampakkan Yun Bok ke dalam air terjun, sebelum ke acara lemas bersama-sama tuh buat aku teringat part Bella terjun dari cliff semata-mata nak Edward selamatkan dia. Haha.. Over okay! Ada hati nak tiru citer New Moon tuh...

Citer nih dari awal hingga akhir hanya berkisarkan tentang era yang mengagungkan karya-karya seni, mostly seni lukis. Ia juga mengaitkan peranan istana dalam mengawal aktiviti seni ini. First half of the story, I laugh a lot coz it's so funny. This is my second time attached to Park Shin Yang after his previous project, Lovers In Paris. For Moon Geun Young, ini drama pertama aku tengok. Movie tu ada la 2,3 ( Innocent Steps, Love Me Not).

Drama ini sangat indah bagi aku sebab penuh dengan kesenian be it the scripts, the costumes, the make up, the sceneries, the sets etc. Dalam drama nih terdapat banyak terminologi-terminologi yang terpaksa difahami untuk mendalami kisah seperti yang diceritakan. Dalam cerita ini terdapat banyak muka yang harus diingat sedangkan muka-muka mereka lebiih kurang sama. This is really confusing. Dahtu pulak, bagi setiap watak, ada 3,4 nama. Nama jawatan lain, nama pangkat lain, nama panggilan lain, nama pena lain, nama betul lain. Hayo!Bagi yang dah pernah menonton Goong dan Hwang Jin Yi, ini mungkin membantu dan merupakan satu bonus. Subtitle untuk cerita ini dibuat 3,4lapis. Kadang-kadang tak sempat nak baca habis. Nak ingat nama pangkat/jawatan/nama pena/nama betul lagi, nak faham apa dia cakap lagi... Huhu, it's quite tiry! Asyik nak kena main pause-play-pause-play aje.

This is no romance drama at all. Putih mata la kalu nak tengok babak-babak bercium. Like I said, most of the historical drama nih agak bound to reality sket. I'm not sure how true story it is as it is an adaptation from a novel. Dalam drama nih banyak memaparkan lukisan-lukisan pada ketika itu. Ada jugak yang berunsur erotik. Ingat orang zaman dulu tak reti ke. Tapi adalah menjadi kesalahan serius kalu lukis gambar-gambar perempuan yang berunsur porno nih. Si pelukis akan dihukum dengan hukuman yang sangat serius iaitu tangan si pelukis perlu dihancurkan dengan blok batu besar supaya dia dicacatkan daripada terus melukis di masa hadapan. Scary!

Watak Maharaja tuh aku suka la. (Dah la quite handsome) Tak macam raja-raja zaman dulu yang ikut aje cakap pembesar-pembesar, tapi raja nih dia sangat intelligent dan berjiwa rakyat . Apa-apa pun sebelum bertindak or decide, baginda akan selidik dan fikir sedalam-dalamnya. Cara dia bertindak tuh sangat cool la walaupun dia tahu konspirasi yang sekian lama tu melibatkan Maharani. Baginda sangat berhati-hati dalam setiap tindakan yang dilakukan. I'm impressed with the King. Ada satu part tuh sangat best bila baginda berjaya mengkantoikan konspirasi para menteri dan berjaya menyelamatkan Yun Bok dari hukuman penggal kepala. Best, best! Tak terfikir pulak plan baginda tuh. Kan dah kata baginda sangat bijak!

Drama ini terlalu indah untuk diungkapkan. Cuma ia tercalar sket dengan jalan cerita perempuan cintakan perempuan nih. I do wish that after the gisaeng found out that he's actually a woman, they will stop loving each other and act accordingly. Arggghhh!!!! But what really happen is they keep loving secretly. These parts really tainted the beautiful story.

Most of the time in the drama, Yun Bok is dressed like a guy. Sekali dua aje dia berpakaian seperti perempuan sebab nak menyamar padahal dia memang pompuan pun! Aku ingatkan at the end dia akan jadi pompuan balik dan meneruskan hidup macam tu. Rupanya ending pun dia tetap jadi jantan. Cheh! Pastu, dia naik kapal nak pergi mana? Nak cari pompuan gisaeng tu ke? Buang masa!!!!

Ending citer nih tak ubah macam Hwang Jin Yi. Elok-elok semua problem setel, yang pompuan pulak lari bawak diri. What la! Korean writers nih memang suka la buat open ending camni. Hish!

Bagi aku, citer nih ada 3 benda slack; jalan cerita yang melibatkan cinta sesama perempuan, takde babak kiss/ banyak romance and lastly the bad ending. The rest memang sangat bagus. Kisah dalam cerita ini penuh dengan strategi dan taktik. Semua menggunakan lukisan sebagai mediumnya. There's lots of puzzles need to be solved using the paintings. Menarik la. Macam CSI ala zaman purba. Semua konspirasi, misteri pembunuhan, komplot menggunakan lukisan sebagai clue. Brilliant idea.

The OST in the drama is really soothing. Lagu sedap-sedap. Sayang sekali ending tak macam yang kita harapkan. Tapi kan, dalam drama nih ada banyak effect-effect grafik yang menarik. Tak terlalu over, tapi membantu dalam memperhebatkan lagi jalan citer.

This drama pursued my 3.5 credits.
